20 year driver, newbie to snow chains!

Yes it is none sense to put on chains it’s dangerous , a waste of time , and telling you you should’ve stayed on line 2 until the roads are clear.

 

Not even union scale UPS drivers get paid to park on ice, or snow. How do you figure you can take a snow break? Or are you just unable to handle the big boy jobs?

 

What’s getting paid have to do with anything? You can’t help the weather if your in the middle of a shift. It’s a case by case basis and all hypothetical YOUR truck will get chains MY truck won’t. I guess cause you put chains on you are automatically protected against your surroundings. Just because you have a bullet proof vest on doesn’t mean you won’t get shot.

 

Whats my excuse for chaining then? Its literally in my line of works job description.

Do i tell the cows, sorry cant get the milk today as their is snow on the ground. Should i tell the farmer the same thing? Along with, "Mr. Farmer, you are just going to have to dump the milk down the drain along with your paycheck for the last two days because i cant get there till the snow stops."

Lmao! Hell no i dont say that. I applied at a job that expects me to do the best job possible since they gave me all the physical tools to do such a job.

Lmao! Parking because of snow? Ice... ok, try and wait for conditions to improve or the plows to get a leg up. No improvements before drop dead times for 5th milking? Chains, lockers, slow.

Just thinking of something. .. "Sorry mam, we couldnt put your house fire out because it was snowing."

You bring the tools to the game to do the job. Chains and bullet proof vests are tools of the specific trades. They dont make you super hero's, they simply help you do your job.

 

It may be dangerous for you, a waste of time for you, but for many of us it's just another day.

 

All chains will do is help you get thru a bad area, most of the times it is only 20-50 miles of bad roads and then turns to better roads, it is up to the driver to drive safe, if they have a fear of that conditions they should really stay out of it. There will be some "super heroes" who think they are bullet proof, sometimes they make it, sometimes not. But those chains may allow you to struggle to a much better place to shut down with food and bathrooms, or they may get you in deeper than you want.

 

Respect the road, respect the truck and respect your mother. You might just get out alive.

Ive never used chains before so I cant be of any help. IF I'm going down a hill, I make sure my diffs are unlocked and then hit the jake brakes at 2100rpm while turning left.
