If it is bad enough that I NEED chains, I'll wait. If I am REQUIRED to chain, that is a different story! I've thrown chains once, and that was on I84 from Pendleton to Portland. Had I been home in Illinois, I would have thought they were flurries, not a snowstorm.

If you drive in it all the time, you don't have the liberty to wait it out. You've got to go. If you're from down south and get stick in a storm, you can only do what is in your comfort level.

In the context of this discussion, I don't think anybody is suggesting to run chains unless there is a mandatory order (lights flashing on the chainup sign)

It would be nice if trucker path app added something to it where drivers can update chain law requirements so all you snowflakes that are afraid to chain can fight over however many fuel islands are still available for parking well in advance. I sent a message via the app suggesting this, maybe if enough of us ask for it they will add it.

I use to be the guy that would sit and wait. Then after two years of that I said to heck with it. Driving over passes with chains on is no big deal. You get comfortable with it and that is a big problem. There should be some little voice in your head saying that you need to take it carefully but you can still do it.

Maybe for you it is a 12 month a year job. For me it's a six month a year gig.

No you don't . You are required to have them with you in certain states, but I have NEVER put them on , and probably never will. If chain law is active on a stretch of road , I pull over and sleep till its over. Usually by that time the troopers will close the road anyway. Freight is not that #### important, my safety is!

Easy. I don't run that much out west, and when I do I really am not in a hurry. I can wait.
