I do often check oil and today, we found out that there is a lot of coolant in oil!
Watery drops in oil and the oil looks like black snot. It is no longer oily and feels literally like snot.
Also had to add a gallon of coolant.
2000 Freightliner FLD, Cat C12, 470k miles.
I do not believe that it was this bad for a long time because, as I said, we check oil.
A few weeks ago a small angle antifreeze hose leading to compressor blew up and we had loss of coolant, however I only drove a minute after the warning and shut off and then put in a makeshift hose to get home and then we put in a proper angled replacement. The hole however, was kinked and possibly did not cool the compressor properly. Maybe wholly unrelated.
OK, now, what do I do? Is the engine shot? Does anyone know a good Cat engine mechanic around Chicago? Should I stop using this truck? Drain oil right away?

Any oil in the coolant?
-
Not good. Is the compressor healthy? Many possibilities here.
-
I will check for oil in coolant tomorrow. My guy who added coolant, told me no. Good question.
Re: compressor. It is working, this is all I know as of this evening.
It is possible that the compressor overheated on the day when the hose to it blew. The replacement that we put in on the side of the road, kinked and possibly did not let the compressor cool properly.
This truck is my daily driver.Intothesunset Thanks this. -
Check the head for bad gasket on compressor if signs point to it.
Maybe check exhaust port on compressor for oil residue, or antifreeze residue?ichudov Thanks this. -
maybe I can disconnect the compressor oil lines, then pressurize the coolant system, and see if air comes out of the compressor oil outlets?
-
Unhook the exhaust port line from compressor. It's an 1 5/16 wrench fitting. That is the pressure out port.
ichudov Thanks this. -
Check the ECM for overheats to see how hot she really got.
Drop the oil pan.......pressure test the cooling system overnight with dry cardboard under it to pinpoint the leak.pushbroom, spsauerland and ichudov Thank this. -
If weep hole on water pump is plugged up, it will poor into crankcase when bearings are on their way out. Best to follow @Goodysnap suggestion and locate the leak. It has taken me over a day to see a leak form, so be patient.

We are testing the compressor right now. We plugged one compressor coolant outlet and hooked up a transparent hose to the inlet. Filled the hose and lifted it high up to the mirror. We will see how much the hose loses over time.
In the hour that passed, the level went down about 1/2 inch. We will keep it overnight and see.
