Also, I will need to drain old contaminated oil and flush it. I have lots of old hydraulic fluid. I would hate to buy 11 gallons of oil just to put it through the engine. Can I, instead, just put 11 gallons of used but clean hydraulic oil , maybe add a gallon of diesel and let the engine idle for 10 minutes?
    thanks

It's the water pump. When they fail on C12's it leaks into the crankcase unlike the C15 that leak to the outside.

How will I be sure that it is the water pump? Drop the pan and see from where it leaks?

Can I test the water pump if I pull it off the engine somehow?

I think dropping pan is needed. Another article like this one with same engine a few weeks ago.

OK, so drop the pan and pressurize coolant to 15 psi? Or just fill with coolant?

Or, maybe pull the water pump and test it somehow?

I'd pull the pan and pressurize the coolant. You should be able to see where it's coming from. I don't know of a way to test the water pump off the engine.

    ichudov Thanks this.

When we opened the plug on the oil pan to drain oil, this black rubber item fell out, any idea what it is?

Barrel plug from oil pan. Nothing to worry about. Probably got pushed into the pan when a new one was getting installed. They cover the blank spots for optional dipstick plug locations
