My 2000 caterpillar was doing that tore it down and it was number six piston was bypassing oil horribly I was using about 4 gallons every 20,000 miles !
If I idled excessively in the winter it would actually leave a puddle on the ground !!!magoo68, Intothesunset and Rame Thank this. -
Yeah that's not good. Take manifold off and find what cylinder its coming from. Then tear down. To find problem. Could be anything from bad head to a piston issue. Had n14 do that it was a bad valve guide.
Intothesunset Thanks this. -
That turbo looks like an N14 turbo? I'm wrong more than likely.
-
Honestly I havent seen n-14 turbo. But this is 2000 ISX 550. The next motor after n-14 . please advice . Thanks
-
You don't need to take the manifold off, run it until warm and use a forward looking camera to see which cylinder is cold.Intothesunset Thanks this.
-
The advice is it's not good. Oil shouldn't be there. You have an internal problem. Pull the manifold off to determine which cylinder is the problem. And start tearing down.magoo68, Rame and Intothesunset Thank this.

Does it matter? The head is going to come off anyway.BigCam9670 and Rame Thank this.
-
Well I didn't read that from the op, the op is looking at an engine so using an filr camera will tell you more than what the seller is claiming.

Unless this truck is dirt cheap runaway.
Cummins_444 Thanks this.
