Hey Guys, long time reader first time poster. Please take it easy on me.
Just got ( a week ago ) a 2000 Volvo 610 with a ISX 400 with 715k, paid 11,500 for the truck (was told it was a solid truck with about 3k worth of recent work) Truck is in decent shape, good tires, etc but the engine has a slight miss at idle. Ran great bobtail so I took it in for an overhead and a PM. Then I get a call from shop that both of my cams are bad (pitted and scored) and need 4 new injector rockers) parts and labor about $6000.00 just to get it running right.
I'm puzzled as I was hoping to jump in this truck and run for a few months before anything major had to be done (like an inframe or something like that) but it seems like this $6000.00 will probably will just get it to were it would run like its supposed to.
What would you guys do? What else can be done at the same time of the repair ( replacing cams, rockers etc) to save on labor and make it last a little longer before a full inframe)
Should I spend the money on this cams issues? And do main bearings? Do an inframe? Sell to the shop and get something else?
Planing on hauling dry van otr for a while.
Thanks in advance for any advice...

With today's advances with lubricants and materials I think doing a bearing roll would be a waste of money unless you plan on doing an inframe.
If you do fork out the $6k to replace the cams and rockers, you will most likely not have to replace them at inframe time, so you'll save a little down the road.Endlessdvr Thanks this. -
Has the oil cooler been replaced yet, If your truck is not taken a/part you can shop around for better price on the parts, that seems like a high est.

Cams on a isx is a big job .
Sounds about right to me.
If you plan on keeping the truck it needs to be done. It is also something you shouldn't have to do again at inframe time.Endlessdvr Thanks this. -
I don't think cooler has been done, so that would be some thing good to do if I did decide to fix it, so far the estimate is about $4500 in parts and $1200 in labor. Two new cams and four injector rockers, and what ever gasketsx etc

google prices for cams and rockers an comp. to what they have on your est.

Took mine in for a miss at idle turned out to be a bad cam, spun cam bearing, cracked head behind spun bearing, bad injector and a cracked piston and scored liner.Truck pulled like a champ.Have them look your truck over carefully. An inframe now saves money on having to buy a new engine when you put a hole in the side of it.
