Hello all,
I am calling on the vast amount of experience out there. My T2000 with a caterpillar 3406e motor just started ticking (knocking) on the left side. The ticking is not loud or sounds heavy it does change frequency as the RPM goes up.
My question is could it be a wrist pin or valve issues the mileage is 850K. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank in advance
omar

I bet you have a injector spring broken, its a common thing with them, could be in the valve adjustment as well, i would set the overhead if you havent in the last 300k miles.
jbl72657 Thanks this. -

had the over head run twice still have a tick in my c15 think i might have the same problem how much down time would i be looking at if i broke a injector spring the tick is in and out not all the time if that help's thanks

Compressor maybe?
-
sounds like a light valve tap but under power like in boost it goes away
-
A failing valve rotator is also suspect for intermitant lash type noise and tight intake valves let compression pops into the aircleaner usually worse after a hard pull and like Les said air compressor, float noise can get fairly loud , quick test for compressor, dump enough air to kick it in the sound should change a lot

had the over head run yesterday so im sure thats right and they didnt find any thing broke bent or anything it's not the compressor sound is under the valve cover light tick at times but driveing the truck i can hear it now and then when on the pedel lightly but with more pedel it seams to fade out and not tick don't seam to be huting the power any just keeps me thinking

Sorry but anything ticking in my motor would have me seriously conserned!

You may have a valve sucking up in to the seat. This causes the bridge have excessive lash, a valve set may not catch it. The only way would be to isolate the noise to a cylinder and then measure the valve stem hight. With the miles you have on the engine its possible for a valve starting to go.
