Odd issue that I've never encountered before, want some insight before I take it to the shop. Truck is a 2000 W900 with some strange braking issues. When I set the parking brake, sometimes it dumps the air and works instantly, other times I hear a slowwwwwww hiss coming from the valve itself (in the dash) and the brakes can take up to 20 seconds to set.

The only other issue the brakes have is a slight surging at light pressure (~10 psi of pedal pressure). Everything else functions fine, trailer brakes set instantly, just the tractor having an issue.

Any clues before I take it in? Thanks.

Check the Quick release valve. If you are not sure follow the line furthest from the chamber mounting to the valve where both side meet it should be around 4" square with two mounting bolts with 2 lines coming into it and 1 on top on the bottom will be a hole to vent the air off the spring brake chamber when the valve in the dash is pulled. The other valve is a anti- compounding valve located in the frame rail at the front of the frt. drive axle left side it looks like a quick release but it has a one way check valve in it, this valve is there to prevent S cam damage if the foot pedal is pushed the same time the spring brakes are set. Good luck both valves are under $70.

That's what my money is on.
    Btw,
I just replaced that anti-compounding valve. Was $68 at the dealer.
The valve worked but the dog ears rotted off and thats a DOT violation...
...just be careful. The Bendix part has several options for fittings. What I thought was a winner
wasn't the right valve. The KW dealer had it but I still had to swap 1 or 2 fittings from the old unit
    onto the replacement...
