Hey guys, I recently bought a truck that had the apads system originally but appears someone tried to bypass it The ac worked for a couple hours after getting it but then the control panel stopped responding. We tried swapping a different control panel in and it worked again for a few minutes until we switched to the defrost setting and them that panel also stopped responding. These panels are expensive, we need to figure out what the problem is before frying any more of them. After some investigating here's what we know:
apads system is flashing 3 reds, short or open clutch circuit.
compressor clutch has a white wire running from it to the dash control, original black wire on compressor is unplugged, there's a cut green wire in the engine harness nearby that we assume was the original compressor clutch wire?
ac control relay is missing completely out of the fuse box
When we swapped the dash controls to a known good unit, the compressor ran and cooled well on the max setting, blower and other controls worked too.... until turning the knob to defrost, after that nothing but the lights worked on the control panel.
There's also at least one cut wire in one of the 2 plugs coming off the apads module, hard to identify color but maybe a tan or dirty yellow? not sure what that is supposed to go to.
Any help from folks who know this system better than us would be appreciated, never had a truck with apads before.

I think your best bet is to take it in to your local dealer and have them repair the wiring back to factory.

Agree back to factory she goes.
Anything else you are just throwing parts at it and it will continue to fail until the chip and cut wire is replaced and reprogrammed to factory. -
Returning it to factory and then diagnosing/fixing what was wrong with it that made them bypass it in the first place seems like the best approach. I was hoping for confirmation on the cut green wire being the correct one for the compressor, I know the white wire has been added and is wrong.
Also what relays are correct for a truck with apads, should it have one in the AC Control slot? (second from top on the left column) It has one in the apads relay slot and the "air cond" slot
Thanks for your time -
9000 series only uses one relay with an APADS system, so that one slot should be empty I believe.
PAJ1979 Thanks this.
