2002 International 9900 turbo change nonvgt to vgt?

    bought a 2002 international 9900. it has a cummins isx with a nonvgt turbo on it. i thought about putting a vgt turbo on it will i have to reprogram the ecm if i change thank you.

    I don't know cummins all that well but I don't think, could be wrong, an 02 came with a vgt so adding one could be problematic. Even if it did, yes I'm sure you'd need reprogramming

    I wouldn’t touch it unless you like repairing turbos.

    Diesel Power Source recently released a VNT housing for S400 series turbos. If you want to switch to a VNT that's the way to do it because there's no computer programming required.

    For everyone asking why someone would want to switch to a VNT, the answer is pretty simple: they're better. Your turbo will never reach its full potential without a VNT. The problems they have are directly related to the way they're used with the EGR systems. Get rid of that and set them properly and you'll never want anything else...except maybe compounds.
