If you put some more fuel to those dogs don't lug it below 1400, you don't need to be stressing them. They love 1600.

On the 93 we went from 16.9 to 15.3 pistons so we could stuff some fuel in her. Rochester stg2 injectors and 171702 turbo along with the rack maxed out. Keep your foot to floor on a long pull and the pyro wont go above 950.

    Shawn2130 Thanks this.

It’s too bad that I didn’t see this sooner.

A diesel shop had just installed a new manifold and turbo.

I would’ve junked them and installed the better stuff to relieve the back pressure

We upgraded all of ours to the E7 460 E-TECH exhaust manifold. Dealer highly recommended it. Thought it was pretty dumb design that you could bottom manifold studs into the push tubes.

Is there a part number for this manifold?

I had a look at the turbo that is installed in the Mack.

It’s actually a aftermarket version of the S400 Borg Warner.

The truck also has the large free flowing manifold.

Tomorrow will be the first time I drive it loaded. So we will see how it performs since the installation.

It still seemed slow at spooling the turbo around town with a load on, but each higher gear that I select, the boost climbed higher.

The highest I seen is about 23 psi.

If I floor the throttle while in neutral and not moving, the boost gauge never moved.

Even when starting to move, the boost gauge sits lazily at 0 psi then starts to climb as the gears are shifted.

Just did a service on it. Disgusting crap coming out of oil pan.

    The second pail was better.

Then poured in 15 litres of diesel into the crank case, ran 30 seconds, poured it back out.

    Doesn’t look like diesel anymore.

Once the crank case was topped back up with new oil, the dipstick is still black looking but can see new oil too.

The new turbo does actually perform better, cleaned up smoke pretty good.

Still not the greatest for power but it’s better. 30 psi of boost is the most I’ve seen.
