I've been looking to purchase a truck and in the mist of it I was told something about a new law or regulation that would be changing in upcoming years. I haven't found anything that states this is true but doesn't mean it won't be. I was told something about not being able to use trucks, years 2004 or below. So I thought I would ask the truckers out there if you've heard anything? Or, would I be ok to purchase and get jobs with a 2001 Frieghtliner? Thanks

Stay up with the port regulations, I kinda do. Something about older trucks won't be allowed, or, are already prohibited. I think some rules have been extended etc.

Look to the left coast for answers, as always they hate truckers but want us to haul their #### in and out of state. Well, some of you do, I choose not to go there and give them any of my money.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've already found what I wanted on the regulation website. There are going to be changes, if you're not affected by them already. For those of you wanting to check the website is www . arb . ca. gov. /dieseltruck They didn't let me put that all together so I hope you'll get it.

Do like I do... I avoid both the East and West coasts. Farm country in the heartland will be the last place that any goofy emissions regulations will be mandated. Sure, they will eventually be put in place, but not anywhere in the foreseable future. Eventually, all the evil, polluting, nasty trucks will be scrapped and everyone will have some form of emissions equipped engines. Only those that have a show truck or a keeper that isn't pulling freight anymore will be the only pre-emissions trucks left. Attrition will eliminate the older trucks. There really is no real need for government to mandate much beyond what they already have. Eventually all trucks on the road will be EGR, SCR, DPF equipped.

California and a few other states may try to accelerate the process, but that is just them. The other states really don't have to do anything and in the years to come, they will get the same result as California.

As much as I would rather not have an emissions equipped truck, I am sure I will sometime in the future. I am just playing a waiting game for the OEM's to get more of the bugs worked out. I prefer to not be an early player in the emissions game. Just like autos, trucks will eventually become more and more reliable with the junk on the engines. I just can't see any reason to hurry up and jump in.

    Dryver Thanks this.
