If you are over your warranty, good luck getting any help from Cat. Just did an engine for a customer who towed his C12 out of the Cat dealer. He had the same failure bit only had 250 000 miles. He towed his truck in to the dealer 6 am , 6 hours after the warranty expired. Cat offered him 50% failed parts only. His bill still would have been over $20 000. Picked up a good used engine for $7000 and threw it in. Cat is very strict with the warranty now since they do not sell a truck engine, they do not care about customer support. 5 years ago the customer would have got 70% parts and labour with no problem. Its not the dealers fault, they are just the messenger, They have to get paid fom Cat..... and they have to fight for times paid by regular warranty.

Did you get any help out of CAT on this one or just sell the truck outright?

I hear PACCAR still has a buttload of cats still in inventory they're trying to get rid of...

Hi Guys,
I have 2003 c-12 bridge motor with 169,000 miles and have heard about the rods going through block. My local dealer has had four c-12's with the same problem, they have replaced whole mototr with new reman from cat. My motor runs great and seems to have no problems. My question is there anything I can do to prevent his from happening, pull pan and replace wrist pin retainer or is the wear not visible or unaccessible. Just cant afford a major break down right now.
Thanks for any advice.
