I am the shop manager at a small fleet. We have an 04 Freightliner Columbia as our wrecker that started having the ABS light on in the dash and no ABS communication with the scan tool. A few weeks later the gauges stopped working most of the time and the truck stopped communication to DDDL. It keeped saying no ECM connected. The dash also said no ABS and no ENG. I went to the ABS module located near the fifth wheel on the Pass side frame rail and disconnected the 3 connectors with the truck running and all of a sudden the dash and everything came back to life. I ordered a new ABS module and connected it and everything went back to normal. The J1939 and 1587/1708 datalinks that serve the ABS also serve the ECM. After making countless phone calls and doing a few hours of research, I found out that this is a common problem with the Meritor wabco frame mounted ABS module.
