Greetings all. I need to replace the crank sensor in my '06 d12d. I've been under the truck and see where the sensor mounts on the flywheel housing, but I cant see where the plug attaches. Can anyone tell me where the plug end of the harness goes? Thanks in advance.

Inside the Vectro box. You sure it's the crank sensor? That one is just for engine RPM and a backup to the cam sensor. The cam sensor is what usually goes bad and causes a long crank before eventually firing up.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to get that changed today.

I'm sure it's the crank sensor. It's throwing a code MID 128 SID 22 FMI 2 which relates to the crank sensor. The truck starts up quickly without hesitation, but runs rough especially under load, low power, and drinks fuel like nobody's business.

check cuz you do have two timing sensors on D12 one is on flywheel housing plugged in inside the box right on top of starter. the other one is in the front by the cam cover and plugged in box. most likely when crank sensor goes bad usualy 90 % of time is extends cranking time so make sure it's not cam sensor

The engine cranks without hesitation. It's throwing a crank sensor code. Would a cam sensor fault have a code, or can it be defective without throwing a code?

it would have a fault code as well just make sure it's the right one does it take and extended period of time to start

The cam sensor should come up as a timing sensor code. A prolonged crank will also pop an injector #1 code.

Ok. I got the old sensor off. Man was it tight in there. I'm not the smallest and the most flexible person around, but I had to put my body in some awkward positions to get that thing out of there. The truck is so low I had to use ramps to get under it. Then it's to high for me to reach a lot of things on the top side.

Now when I finally got the cover off the Vectro box, I found oil in the box toward the firewall end. It's running down on the starter and blowing back. I recently had the oil pan seal changed thinking that's where the oil leak was coming from. I'm baffled; where is this oil coming from, and is there a remedy for it while I'm working in that area? Thanks for the help so far fellows.
