    Hi guys, here's my issue.
Normal water temp in 184 F. But on a medium to hard pull it spikes to 211 F. Then I get the 'Oil Can' icon on my dash and the engine shuts down
    Water pump, Thermostats checked OK.
Ambient air, Oil Pressure, and Oil Temp Sensors replaced.
I'm getting an EGR over temp fault code but the Volvo dealers don't seem to think it's related.
Any ideas on what I should do next?

Coolant temp sensor maybe.... But most likely your egr temp sensors with the little computer box is causing the code as it sees the heat from egr after the EGR cooler....which could be a sticking EGR valve allowing excessive flow and coolant temp overload.
Excessive EGR flow results in a cracked cooler in short order...you want to avoid this costly repair!

Change your oil it will stop shutting down going up an incline
If you are loosing 1/2 gallon of coolant every 2500 to 3500 miles clean your egr cooler

Fan kicks in around 210 F.
It seems to cool down quickly but as I'm getting the 'Oil Can' icon on my dash I'm not thinking water temp is the issue. Thanks for the suggestion though ;0)

Does the truck pull well is my first question then the second question i have what is the oil temp and oil psi when the oil can comes on the dash along with the engine shutting down. also does the fan come on often there is a good possibility the radiator fins are plugged with just debri and it's not cooling the system down like its supposed to. also if you have codes for an egr temp usually that comes with a good derate of the engine it can happen for a few different reasons one being that the vgt its getting stuck or epg the second egr cooler needs to be washed out.
