Just wondering if people are still having issues with these motors with the burner on em or if all the updated parts have started to fix the issues?

I know alot of people will bash a certain engine for life due to bad experience not knowing that updated parts corrected the problems years ago so I'm looking for recent experience and not horror stories from 4 years ago.

thinking of grabbing a 08 prostar.

    thanks alot.

I have a volvo 2006 ISX engine. I bought it at 600K and problems started to come up after 800.

Not sure what to tell you. At the moment I have oil in my coolant but I RUN IT OK EVEN ON HEELS!. I changed my oil cooler about 50K miles ago and it came back. Cummings as CAT as Detroit are ment to last a life..... an engine life.... Even sick you can drive them... and they will die with you!

What can I say? 1 000 000 miles you should not buy that truck!

Have any of you ever compared cost for a comparble glider setup compared to getting a used or new truck?

We do glider builds at our shop and have always wondered what the cost difference breakdown comes to, but never really looked into it.

I don't need to look into the maintenance and repair comparison to know the benefits of the pre emmisions.

gliders are great, rebuilding old into new is great but not right now for me. I'm in canada and with our very weak dollar right now and everything we order coming from USA, I won't be spending any big ticket money.

    That makes sense.

It's just something that I've always been curious about because majority of our customers are in the agriculture side of the industry. I can't really see a farm investing in a glider. We have quite a few fleet company customers, but I don't see gliders being being brought into their fleets either.

But, due to the range of work we do i can see us having customers wanting gliders through us.

They are good if they have the updated parts, basically. Sorry to say, but any 08 truck is at the end of it's useful life. This is the age where everything goes down hill fast if it is still original. EGR coolers are 100% failure for ISX at about 600-800K km. EGR valves will not last forever. DOCs and DPF degrade quickly after 12000+ hours and after treatment doser injectors are only good for a couple of years. How about the turbo? If this 08 you are looking at has never had any of these major components replaced, they you can expect some big dollar repairs soon.
