As for your smell, check for anything that has come loose and is rubbing on the exhaust, like loom from a wire harness, insulation, any hoses or lines. Check your a/c lines for any signs of dark coloring or bulging. Check your main battery cables to make sure they are rubbing on anything and shorting out.
