I am selling or trading for a day cab. My truck is a 1999 Kenworth W900L with a N14 with around 800k miles never been into, 13 speed 3.55 rears. My question is I have a guy that said he would trade a 2008 peterbilt 389 daycab with ISX with emissions taken care of, 275k on inframe, 600+ hp, 18 speed, 390 rears. I know the emission talk is not allowed but I’m not asking how to but if the engines are good after the fact since the one in question has been taken care of. If this is not allowed here I understand and will remove. Thanks.
2008 ISX

Rawze.com has a lot of info on this.
If it was fixed correctly, it can be a great engine, apparently. The issue is, most fixes are done incorrectly and lead to overheat/eat the turbo/doesn't run right ever again.
There is a file called milk money and with some tools and insite you can do it all yourself, or verify it's done correctly. It is a simple text file with instructions. Rawze also says these engines aren't good if turned way up horsepower wise. I've read a lot over there but am not a member. Basicly don't go there looking to make it a hp monster, unless you want to blow it apart.
There is a user here who has one of these engines and I believe got rawze's help, but the account is having me drawing a blank at the moment.

I can't remember exactly the reason the engines don't put up with being turned up high, I just remember reading it and thinking....that makes sense.
600 maybe 650 probably fine, but more than that it apparently won't go for all that long.
Maybe someone else here knows the reasoning.Jasonar15 Thanks this. -
I've heard a lot of folks say the ISX is bad for dropping liners. I'm thinking too much power probably makes that issue worse.

So why would a guy with such a great truck trade in for a 10 year older truck? Is it solely because because of ELD?

I'd daycab your w900 before trading it off. You know the truck and its quirks. Who knows what shape the pete is in.
