I have a 2008 386 with Cummins ISX. Engine will crank over, but will not start. The "stop engine" red warning is on and has a "J1939 FAILURE" message. Has trouble code 049 001483 9 SPN primary - source address of controlling device for engine control abnormal update. I have been checking wiring harness from engine and ECM into cab, checked engine and frame grounds, disconnected batteries. Upon a litte research I guess the CECU (body module) is not communicating with the ECM? I have a code reader, but not any of the dealer diagnostic equipment. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. -Mark

Yah, your kinda in the dark with out getting a code from the engine, if you can communicate with it. If your not getting any rpm on the tach when cranking something is wrong with the ECM for sure. A 1939 datalink failure should not cause a no-start.

Update. ECM was bad. New $$$ouch$$$ ECM repaired truck. Just for anyone else that runs into this the truck was running perfect then out of nowhere would crank over, but would not even try to start. The lift pump and fan clutch solenoids would cycle on and off with key on and not cranking. Weird shizz.
