Find another Freightliner. What are you looking for in a truck? What drove you to this one? Why did your old truck burn for?
montana cowboy Thanks this. -
thanks for reply frtl burned due fuel line coming out fuel/coolant block above air compressor and spraying fuel over everything sure compressor ignited fuel got fire out but wiring and air lines melted cost of repair over 75% of cost of truck so insurance wants to right off and all est. say two months min to fix(over 75% cost is labor)

Oh ok. Sorry to hear about that. I would strongly consider finding another Freightliner with a Series 60 in it. Schneider has a lot of trucks used at good prices, albeit probably worn out. Look out there, there are plenty of deals to be had. People complain about the MPG's on these new CAT's. Are you looking for any truck? A DPF truck? What do you haul and where?

In Canada and pull super b's grossing 140000lbs! Cat is first choice then 60 series, as stiil have frtl for parts or can rebild as time allows just trying to get truck to work with , get rid of rental (F****)volvo-price is reasonable or wouldn't rent it but getting tired of it!

I agree with superhauler - if it's engine serial is SDP don't take it if they are going to GIVE it to you. You WILL go broke with fuel.
I have an 09 SDP motor in a w900l. It has had a full rebuild, all under warranty, right at 800,000 km (I was VERY lucky here) which included basicly a new motor, new CAC, new DPF, all I had to pay for was cylinder kits. Before I had this done I got 4 mpg (US gallons) steady. This is only at 80k gross!!!! The new DPF seems to work fine .. knock on wood ... I do have to do parked regens once in a while. I am now averaging 5.7 mpg at 80k gross, irregular routes. This is from MB wheel bearings on all 5 axles and the fuel wire. I really want to delete this DPF but I fear that the emissions "drive clean" in Ontario will prevent me from renewing plates then I will be really be up a certain creek with a turd for a paddle. This is no joke - this motor is the worst cat has ever made. I consider myself very lucky with how mine is turning out. I do not expect this truck to make it much past my 48th payment, even though I take very good care of it. This engine, when it quits, I don't expect anyone to buy it, it will probably turn into a project for me to take it apart and learn first hand how the internals work.(who cares if I ever get it functioning again) Otherwise it is a very costly boat anchor.
Hopefully by the time this truck pukes, they will have some decent options available. To me everything new is garbage except for the DD15. And that is only available in a freightliner. The cummins would be good if people weren't replacing the turbo every year. I have little choice but to do business as if a truck is good for 4 years then essentially garbage. No quality in anything anymore, use it, throw away, get another. Sad. -

Buy an older truck from the late ninetys with a Detroit

PDI can delete your dpf but not sure if they can close cgi as well. DieselSpec in Montreal can do it, that's the only reason I was going to go with them. There's a $5k "fix it" expense right off the top. Also - not sure what emissions systems are in place where you are but you can cross cali off your map for good. Not really sure what Ontario rules are for "drive clean" for outside carriers. If you don't want to comply with the emissions or appear to be complying, I strongly recommend getting the older truck.
Another thing I can tell you my motor does is throws a CEL light from time to time. Usually it means it hasn't started a good cook cycle. I get this if I run it for a few hours above 1500 rpm. I have to let it stay on for a few hours then pull over and hopefully the regen start button will allow it to do a parked regen. Not always. Sometimes pull over and the light goes off only to come back on once I reach 50 mph again. Frustrating.
Before it was rebuilt the light would come on because the crankcase filter was plugged. It would plug about every 2000 miles. That filter is about $70. They do have a replacement system which only cost me something like 2,000 to install. I still ended up ripping the guts out of the filter so it doesn't do anything. When it did that and demanded a new filter it would derate the motor so bad I had 18 psi on the turbo, full throttle. No power and $1 per mile for fuel. If you have your heart set on this truck, be prepared to deal with these issues. In the beginning it would of been easier for the dpf to screw up and burn the truck to the ground.Cat sdp and montana cowboy Thank this.
