What condition is it in? Does it appear to be taken care of, or just cleaned up to sell? Was it a company truck or private? are they willing to let you take it to a Cummings shop for a look over? Too many variables to consider IMO.

Also to add to this, Are they willing to show you the maintenance records? What about the bottom end being done? Barings and rings for sure, that should hold it together for a while longer, was it a governed truck and now you are going to take it ungoverned? That may pose a problem. I'm not sure, I have questioned Lone Mountain, You can add a warranty to it. Not sure the cost but it makes good insurance. Let us know how the deal at Lone Mountain works out for you.

Not to fire anyone up here or get an argument going but what issues does the ISX have? They are a machine, if they are not treated as such them they will quit on you prematurely! If they are maintained properly then they have predictions that they will go to a certain point before they need major work. Just my 2 cents here. Thanks.

What will you be useing the truck for? 400 hp is a little on the low side but with a 13 speed it may be ok depending on what it is for.

Check over at the garage... there are a couple threads with isx woes. Major engine rebuilds due to wear on camshafts. No cummins warranty either.

Dont forget the most recent addition to the garage/ISX forum.....A hole in the block of a ISX motor, which is certainly not unheard of.
Volvo truck and ISX motor......Not going to end well for the most part IMHO.

The list of decent options is indeed getting thinner, but I have known too many ISX owners to even consider one myself. S60's can be had up to 2009/2010, and they are the last of the proven motors with DPF in my research. DD's are supposed to be holding up well also, but too new for me to feel comfortable with them. I dont lease my truck from a carrier that has 250 others exactly the same, so I can't afford to be some engine manufacturers "experiment".
