Yes DD15 is indeed is the best on the market right know, but that leave you with only one option of FL Cascadia. Sucks.
Goin with Paccar or MF is not an option at all, Volvo is decent running, somewhat lasting but not strong enough for my liking. But that leave you with another just one option of unreliable truck as a whole and expensive taking care off.

No matter what engine you have in your truck, the more you understand about it and can do yourself these days, the better off you are. Lets face it, the average repair shop any more is nothing but hell-bent on raping you for all you are worth, no matter the problem. There is good and bad in every truck/motor. Understand how to deal with or avoid the bad, and use the good to your advantage and you will be just fine. If you want to consider that volvo and its ISX, then do some reading from those on here that have revealed its secrets and not just the guys who complain about them falling apart after much neglect and abuse like bad egr deletes, power mods, etc. It seems to be the speed demons and mod-power happy crowd who find the most bad in any engine or truck.

I found this interesting the other day and it makes sense, rather than the typical rant you always see on these forums. If the ISX was such junk, then they would have gone out of business by now, because they have been around for a while...

maybe this helps you become more informed about the truck you are considering.

    What a complete crock.
The guys I have known personally with the ISX's were not abusing them, doing bad EGR delete's, or any of the other drivel you claimed. In fact, the only guy that was pretty much happy with his ISX, had PDI delete all the emission junk on it!
And as far as going out of business is concerned, I think Cat is still around as a company, and few can deny that their 2009 model motors were a nightmare as a rule. R heads annually, new cranks and blocks, heads being pulled twice a year, and so on. Funny though, I still load Cat machinery.

Yeah, mine EGR deleted completely and DPF taken out. I am happy as it is. Mine turbo puts out 43 psi and I rip the hills apart plus getting 7.2-7.4 loaded. No problem what so ever: no codes, no regens, no derations. Before that it was nightmare. Now worry free for 76K. Can't say it about Volvo itself thou. Air leaks and suspention still gives but I think it's more due to NE roads.
So yes, if you to plan to do some mods, you need to know what should come along with each other.

next time you post, maybe it will be an intelligent one where you can actually provide useful info instead of the 75% bashing you freely give towards most of these forums. Too bad there is not an ignore switch because you would be at the top of the list.

btw I have just as many friends that own cummins engines WITH EGR/DPF and they get 6.5-7.5+ mpg all day and have good luck with them. Some even now have 800k miles on them, still going strong, not a single issue. I did not tell the guy to go out and buy the stinkin truck, I told the guy to perhaps educate himself on what he was considering, unlike your post after post of useless slap-down on anything that doesn't hold up to your superior standards.

come to think of it, I know of several mega-carriers that run those engines without all the bad things you claim, who order more new ones each year bacause they actually have good luck with them.

the days of non-erg engines are numbered, and the days of guys ripping these systems off their engines are numbered as well. I o not agree with everything Rawze says, but most of it is at least intelligent. My take on it is that this industry not only requires us to stop polluting our planet, but it now is demanding it. Its here to stay, and I do not disagree with these facts. I work with them. I actually will praise the day when trucks are governed in this country, like most of the other countries have already done. This at least will put a small clamp on this countries out of control energy needs, making us all breath easier.

I might agree with your take on pollution. But I come to think government itself is the biggest and superior pollution source of this country.

    cuya Thanks this.

There is indeed an ignore function IIRC. Feel totally free to use it if you get butthurt so easily.
And all I do here is bash folks? Give me a break.
Go read my threads and then maybe rethink that one too.
All the discontent does seem to come from this particular section of the forum though. Funny how folks who aren't owner operators can post anything and everything about what they hear, what their friends 2nd cousin had, and so on.
There is indeed a reason I tend to stick to the flatbed forum.........At least the guys n gals in there are actually pulling a flatbed for the most part.
