Hello I have a 2008 Volvo 780 D13 485 HP that get's very hot!!! Temperatures around 210 degrees as soon as the temp gets to 200+ it will dramatically loose power, not only on hills but on level surface as well. The other day I was driving in WI temperatures outside were around 90F and the truck temp was about 210 warning light comes on to check coolant level, however I checked coolant and it's up to level. I was driving like this for about 2-3 hours at barely 45-50MPH. Then outside it starting raining and temperatures dropped to about 75F and the truck temp dropped to about 180 and instantly gained a lot of power and was driving normally. I also noticed it has a excessive amount of black smoke coming out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Truck has 645k Miles, Ultrashift Transmission

Had two of the same trucks and both of them had issues. One had 480k one had 500k the 500k blew the motor up at around 700k and the 480k had 3 rebuilds.by the time it hit 700k
First issue with the 480k miles was the turbo then It had the same issue as your truck kept saying low coolant when it was full and losing Power eventually shuting down. I unplugged the sensor and put a paper clip into the ends of it and it ran fine after that. Then a bit later blew a hole in the block but, I think that's because there was more water than coolant in the system and it blew a hole in cold temps.

But your issue might be the dpf system. I kept losing power and then later it stopped regeneing then it went into stage 3 regen and had to get it towed to volvo where they cooked the filter and reset the system. Then had regen issues again... until I drilled holes In the filter barrle then never had regen issues again.

I never lost power again. After the dpf was drilled it was never abel to get full and warn me or mess with the sensors because the soot never built up.

I'm surprised the computer didn't figure that out and go into limo mode after xxxx miles or hours without a regen.
Op, 210 isn't crazy hot for the D13, I think your problem may be with something else.
My brother in law's 08' Mack MP8 runs 210° coolant regularly, no problems. -

If you bypass or drill dpf all you're doing is just messing the system up if properly maintained they have no issues holes are around 1/4 if you must know but it's much easier to properly maintain them it also gets you better fuel down the line, and on top of that there is going to be a day that comes very soon that if you bypass dpf or drill it you have to replace it i had it happen to two customers already and they had to replace everything and reprogram the computer in order to be able to run the truck again
