Guys. I am looking at a couple trucks with a 515 hp Detroit engines and Eaton automatics. I have heard that unless you have a lot of hp forget them. MPG issues? Reliable? Etc. Should I look harder at them, or run for the hills???
Thanks

You should be running from that truck. Dpf detroit with a automatic, from my view its a money pit. more downtime in shops than driving. Search the forum you'll get lots of info on those here engines. This goes for any truck from 2007 build date to like 2012 where they fixed a few problems but nowhere as good as non egr engines.

OK. Please keep the comments coming. I currently run an 07 ISX which for the most part runs well. I also have an 05 14L Detroit. This thing is back in the shop again now.

They are all Shop Queens.swaggerjacker Thanks this. -
This scares me. I'm really confused as to which direction to go in. Saw a couple Fitzgerald Gliders. Trying to make an informed decision, however, there are arguments pro and con to everything. Who's to say anyone is wrong? Not me. LOL

Seems like the 2008-2011 models were the worst. I'd pass, go older or newer

I had an 08 Columbia with a 515/ 12 speed automatic. Light loads it didn t pull that well. Now with 46,000 lbs of glass that thing would climb a hill like it was nothing. My fuel mileage was around 6.2 in the winter running mostly in the Midwest, and in Summer I would average 7.1 to as much as 8.5 with light and heavy loads. I typically drove between 65-72 mph
