No whining, no leaks, normal power. We had it in for service and when we picked it up the shop manager says the turbo is "starting to go". What does that mean? How does he know?
I always thought you'd hear whining, or get an oil leak, or get an ECM code for it.
Also, they want 3800 for it, part number 2882111RX. That seem ridiculous.

You can check it yourself by taking off the air intake duct and see if there's any play in the wheel

Hmm since the turbo is powered by exhaust gas wouldn't that mean the whole engine is surging?

Look on YouTube for "rawze egr tune up". You may have a couple sensors partially clogged.

Yes ......rawze.com is the place to look for info

Actually what the tech might be referring to is the VGT. Either the motor effort is getting high or the sector gear in the turbo is getting tight. You can remove the actuator. You have to drain the coolant. There is a go no go gage Cummins has to check sweep. But, the effort it takes to move the sector is kind of subjective. 2010 has electric operated vgt so there might be a datalink or some other fault internally. Not always can you tell the condition of a turbo by grabbing the shaft and jiggling it.

By the way, does anyone know of a place to get a reman/rebuilt turbo, reasonably priced? Dealer price is 3800
