@Hurst How loud is the generator? And how much noise does it make inside of the sidebox? I would think that would be annoying for the driver that parks next to you with that generator rattling around inside the sidebox... ?

$1900 from Northern Tools. The side boxes cost me another $600 to have made.

All in all.. still much cheaper for power, heat and a/c vs what an APU would have cost me. Much less maintenance, 100x quieter than any diesel APU and 6 months later.. no complaints. Changed the oil twice so far.. very easy to do. Saves me roughly $300 a week vs idling all night. Everything has already paid for itself.

The generator is mounted.. does not rattle.

As for noise... my window air conditioner makes more noise then the generator. Its that hush hush quiet. You have to hear it to understand.

Whats annoying is listening to someones diesel apu rattling and putting all night. It like parking next to a reefer running on and off all night.

The 3000 will run my fridge, microwave, 8500 btu window a/c OR 1500 watt infrared space heater all at same time on eco setting for roughly 16 - 18 hours on a full tank. Longer if I make sandwiches and dont cook on the forman and/or microwave.

I use about $30 a week in gas.

Do you have a cover for the Honda when you're rolling down the road?

You're thinking of construction site or the cheap hardware store generators that sound like lawn mowers or import cars with fart cannons.

This is completely different. Those have no voltage control. The Honda EU3000SI has a built in inverter that keeps the voltage steady and mimicks exactly what household current is. Safe for all electronics. I would not trust a cheap generator to power any sensetive electronics.

That and very few of them will run for more that 5 - 8 hours... much less 15 - 20 hrs like this Honda will. Important unless you want to wake up in a sweat or freezing cold after only a few hours because it ran out of gas. I did a lot of research before I chose the Honda. I almost got the Yamaha.. the remote start was really pulling me in. But the Honda has a 12amp 12v DC lead so if my truck batteries run low.. I can charge them quicker than the Yamaha that only has an 8 amp 12v DC lead. That was the deal breaker for me.

As for noise... I absolutely can not hear or tell if the generator is running from inside the truck. Outside.. I can stand 1 ft in front of it and hold a normal conversation with out the need to raise my voice.

I'll have to look into that. Kinda blows having to go out and start it manually in the rain. I was going to wire up a start button inside the sleeper wired to the ignition.
