Good information about pressure testing the cooling system. One thing to note, the EGR system can create a vicious cycle. The EGR cooler leaking can lead to head gasket/ liner problems. Loss of coolant enough that air enters the EGR cooler coolant side cause the cooler to crack, thus back int the combustion chamber. (Remember the purpose of the EGR cooler, any void in coolant and the exhaust gas is too hot for the tubes to handle.)

It is a big job to replace a head gasket you might as well do an inframe and just put a new head on it while it is all taken apart most of the cost associated with the 50$ gasket replacement is the labour. Probably a reason why the head gasket blew to begin with.
