Is there a way to activate the engine brake without applying the service brake? I just see the 3-position toggle switch on the dash, and the button on the wheel, but it seems that I have to press in the brake pedal about 1-1.5" before the engine brake will kick on. This is annoying since that much brake application slows the truck fairly dramatically and I'm usually only wanting the engine brake to maintain my speed down a grade...

I know that once I get ~5mph above my cruise control set-speed the engine brake will come on without any service brake application -- I'm just wondering how I can do that when not on cruise...

    Thanks,
    DY

Are you disengaging the cruise control when you hit the brake pedal?

You might still have the cruise control on. You'll need to turn it off.

If not, it's tuned by the trucks ECU. You can take the truck to a dealer and have them change the settings. I actually prefer to have a engine brake engage this way. I cant count how many times I forgot to turn off the engine brake, and wonder why the truck was dropping RPM's like a ex-gf when I was accelerating.

Jakes should come on automatically as soon as the throttle pedal drops back to the idle position when not on cruise.
I would guess that a parameter is not set correctly in the CPC(cab ECU). They can be a bit of a pain to set up correctly. May need to use DRS, not DDDL7 to change the parameter.

The CPC parameter is PGR010/004. Should be set to "0. Disable". Yours is probably set to "1. Enable automatic engine brake with service brakes".
    Can be reset with DDDL7.
