I have a 2012 freightliner with the stock antenna, and when it gets icy the antenna's start smacking the sleeper. can anybody recommend a good replacement broadband antenna that will be firmer but also being broadband as i also use it for 10m through a tuner.
Thanks
Jeff

i would ditch any factory crap altogether. if it is a cascadia, then go here and get this mount and run your own coax and get a reliable browning br40, K40 or wilson antenna.

FWIW,,,I'd agree with the mount however not the antenna choice. If yer using a tuner to make an 11 mtr. ant work on 10 mtrs, I'd choose the...
5.5' Francis as long as the power is under 200 watts. Why? cause the francis comes outa the package tuned near-perfect, they are bullet-proof, very inexpensive, & will out-talk about anythig some monkey named wilson made.
Ok,,,sorry but couldn't resist.

The K-40 is a fine antenna but no better than anything else IMOmike5511 Thanks this. -
if you get a fiberglass antenna like the francis or firestik, be sure and carry 2 or 3 spares as they snap much easier than a steel shaft antenna.

I'd agree when it comes to a thick/stiff glass ant. like the firestick.
However my experience with the francis is the opposite. They will flex like a fishin' pole & theres no heat-shrink coating to leak moisture or crack over time.
I like them alot! Best antenna short of a 102 I've used. JMO -
Another vote for the Francis. Not the best, but overall very satisfactory with minimum hassle and tuning.

i would recommend the predator 10k that's what im running on my 2010 prostar and i love it

I agree its a great mount, that's what i have my 2 meter antenna on. So I am stuck using the stock mounts on the truck. -
If I didn't slip seat, I'd try running a good coax from the factory mount to the radio and use a Francis 4.5ft. Also the little 4ft metal whip antenna with the tuning ring at the base has worked good for some.

If he is dealing with ice buildup on his antenna then the last thing he wants is a francis. We have drivers in my area that buy them because they are cheap but they go through 2 or three of them during the winter. I see alot of them snapped of and slapping the side of the cab as the driver goes down the road.
The firesticks seem to hold up much better in icy situations. This is coming from someone that lives in the heart of ICE country.
Another thing is the thinner flexable antennas tend to whip alot more when they get a little ice build up on them. The thicker ones don't whip around as much which makes them last longer.
As far as the comment on the francis being better. I switched to a Wilson stainless for a reason.
