Good Evening All,
I went to my truck this morning to take it in for an alignment. After my pre trip, I started the truck and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) was lit. I cycled the dash to the "faults" screen and 3 faults were listed. After searching multiple threads and of course Google, I have found some vague answers. 641 spn mentions the Turbo Actuator. 3360 spn mentions After Treatment DEF Controller. Lastly, 3216 spn makes reference to the After treatment intake NOX sensor. I find it quite odd that these would all go out at the same time. Makes me suspect (and hoping) that it might be bad ground or power connections. Any insight would be great. I have looked for detailed Fault Code files and can not find detailed information. Thanks in advance.
Fault 1:
-Eng 0
-641 spn
-Fail 11
Fault 2:
-Eng 0
-3360 spn
-Fail 9
Fault 3:
-Eng 0
-3216 spn
-Fail 9

Firstly, thank you for providing all of your necessary vehicle information when asking for help, I appreciate it. Well done.
Now to your problem........
All of your faults that you listed are for abnormal update rate for the VGT actuator, Intake NOX sensor and Aftertreatment controller. Basically this means that the ECM was not able to talk to these devices on the datalink for a time while the ECM was powered up. The only common between the devices is the datalink wires themselves.
This issue will be very difficult to track down unless the faults remain active. Most likely you have a rubbed wire or bad connection somewhere between the components with the fault. If the fault status is inactive and low counts, put it back to work and monitor for the issue to reoccur. It is unlikely that a component is causing your issue, but not impossible.
See if you can duplicate where it happens, if only hot. Ohm out the internal resistance of the vgt actuator to be 120 ohms.
Good luckbzinger and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this. -
Had local Mechanic diagnose the issue and isolated the problem to be a bad VGT Turbo Actuator. I was there watching his software as we would unplug the VGT and all codes/faults would go "Inactive". Plugged it back in and every warning light and code/fault would go "active" again. After a new $1,300 VGT Actuator, truck performed a complete Regen and have not had a problem since. I guess it could have been worse, but problem solved. It's wild how ONE bad part could surge/lack power and freak out the Computer. Anyways, thanks for the help, as you were CORRECT with it being the VGT Actuator.Goodysnap Thanks this.
