Multiple bolts- nuts or a threaded fan hub?

 

If you have a manual trans, just put it in any high range gear with the engine off, this will lock the engine enough. You can also put a socket and breaker bar on the pulley nut at the accessory drive pulley to lock the engine. If not, you need someone with a large screwdriver under the engine and wedge one of the ring gear teeth in the bell housing. There is an inspection cover at about 5 o'clock you can remove to access the teeth.

Clock wise?

 

If you are removing a stratus type fan clutch, the big nut is left handed thread.
