It can be fix. The previous repair patch was crap. You should have caught that before buying. I would cut the frame between the two drives and put in a new rail. If you don’t like that and have the money you can put in two new rails

It seems to me, that truck is a light weight spec in the first place. There are frames with heavier gauge rails, even at Volvo.
This might have been the reason for the patch already.

700k on the truck, I can't justify fixing this damage. Even after it is all fixed up you still end up with truck that lost value regardless of what has been done to it. Add couple of weeks down time while in the shop, I wouldn't deal with that. On fairly new, low mileage truck fixing may make more sense but 6 years old with nearly 700k I think you must be insane unless Insurance won't cover.
I'd personally cash the check and buy another truck

Would be cheaper to buy a complete cut-off and put it on than it would be to repair the frame.

I saw that repair too, poorly done BUT ....

This all can be fixed without the drama.

Everything after the fifth is bent, the spring perch for the rear axle does not look bent and can be aligned if need be.

The air bag mounts are not as critical, they can be a little out of aligned, as long as the bag is almost vertical.

The rest behind the fifth on the top rail can be shored up with a new inner frame and remounting the radius rod and shocks. Take a torch to the bent portions with a ram to bend it all back. The shocks are not load bearing and the inner frame piece will supplement the frame to hold up to a full weight.

By the way, I've had this done from a bob tail rear end accident. my truck was really messed up, the insurance company wanted to give me 80% of what I owed on the truck, not a direct replacement so I went and got a few quotes and had the work done - never had an issue with it, the truck is still on the road.

I'm at 3rd Volvo , i got problems with the frame with all of them, after 600-700k kind of weak flimsy frame design, ironically Volvo comes with 700k miles frame warranty . The genius who previously welded the patch inside the left rail should go to jail. There are all kind of stickers on truck frames warning not to weld it , softens the heat treated steel. This truck was totalled before you got it, should not have passed safety . I was quoted about 20,000$ for rails replacement, if the truck is ok, maybe worth the investment, vs 150,000$ for new truck.

Yea a set of cut-offs is the route I'd take. If the truck is in good running order no sense getting rid of it and starting all over again with dpf/egr/def systems

Edit: as another poster said move your 5th wheel back so its in the center of the tandems. No reason to have it that far ahead unless you moved up after the incident

Thanks for the info. But yeah this was the first truck I bought so many problems. I learn a lot and lesson learn now. When I found out about this truck issues I went back to the dealer and all those guys from the sales guy to finance guy was fired. I think I only old like 15,000 a year left on payments on the truck.
