2014 Cascadia DD13 10sp
So, this truck got a brand-new air compressor last year installed.
Ran just fine. I put the truck down and haven't run it for a few months.
A few days ago, I go to start it, and it won't build air past 60psi. So just because, I replaced the dryer and dryer filter. Still not charging past 60psi.
I removed the main airline from the dryer that goes to the compressor, its pumping air just fine, can't hold my hand over it or anything. Found the airline going from the dryer to the air tank, pumping air just fine, can't hold the air back with my finger. Checked the tanks for water, had very little in them.
No audible air leaks that I can hear.
What am I missing here?

60 psi is when a ton of stuff gets air, suspension, cab suspension, transmission, seats, ect. There is an air leak somewhere.
-
Ive walked around the truck, crawled under it with the truck on and off. I dont hear any leaks anywhere. -
If theres no major leak anywhere the first thing I'd look at is the Governor.
jamespmack Thanks this. -
Doing the exact same thing as the old dryer and governor. -
After it gets to the 60lbs level, how long do you let the truck run? I worked for a company that had a fleet of old trucks/trailers, I mean OLD, many from the mid 1990’s, and earlier. There were some that only got used a couple times per year. We had the same issue. Many times it worked to let the truck run at least an hour or so. For some reason(probably a sticky air valve somewhere in the system) the first time airing up after a long period of non use. After that, you could use that truck or trailer everyday, with no problem, until the next hibernation.

What happens at 60 psi? Does the drier purge? Does the compressor stop running?
If the compressor is just running and running then you either have a big leak somewhere or the unloader valve on the compressor is leaking.
Since it stops building air right at 60 psi that really points to an air leak as opposed to a defective unloader valve. Check the bottom of your air bags. They rot out and a big enough hole wouldn't necessarily sound like an ordinary hiss.
Do you have a switch on the dash to dump the air bags? Throw that switch and see if the truck will build air.Last edited: Aug 22, 2024
gentleroger and LameMule Thank this. -

But if it was the unloaded valve, wouldn't it not be pumping air out from the compressor? The compressor isn't even a year old.
I've checked all over for air leaks. Checks airlines, bags, air chambers, inside the cab, all the way under the cab with the truck on and off.
I know it has to be a stupid simple fix. -
Probably a leak you can't hear. Something like a fan clutch. Might even be right at the compressor.
