I am a firefighter/paramedic with a department that recently purchased an ambulance on a 2014 Terrastar chassis with an allison series 1000 transmission. Since we've had the truck, we've had multiple instances when we start the truck that the check engine light comes on, " ABS module " flashes on the display, and " Check Trans" comes up on the display as well. Then the vehicle will not shift into any gear. wanted to know ifanyone else has had this problem and what the fix is.

We see the ABS module fault a lot on our ProStars, but not the failure of the transmission to work properly. Navistar has not been able to resolve the issue.

I threw out half of it because I was searching for the problem when I found his post so I reposted his post to see if there were any new info on the problem. I am having the exact same issue with my city's new ambulances.

Terrastars aren't massively produced like a Prostar is, so we do not see too many of them, especially one that is an ambulance. I have seen several larger model firetrucks and police units that have issues like this. To be honest, the firefighters where shutting off the truck by the master switch and this caused hard-shutdowns of the electronics and caused programming corruptions. Turning off the master switch while running is the same as shutting off your computer by pulling the cord out of the wall. Eventually you will corrupt something. The police unit had several 3rd party devices attached to the vehicle datalink. Once these devices were unplugged the problem was fixed. Once the devices were plugged back in, the problem stayed away too? I suspect something was locked up electronically and was corrupting the datalink so other devices could not communicate with each other. Once again, reboot the electronic devices is the first move. Try to disconnect the batteries for 5 mins and reconnect and retry.

Hello everyone. I have 2013 international terrastar. ABS light was on for few days then I thing brakes got locked. When I put in drive it doesn't move and makes a horrible sound like something is breaking like teeth on disc or something. When I put in neutral no noise. When I put in reverse it drives and no noise. My dashboard also says ABS Module. Any advice, anyone please. Thanks Mark

Didn't check will do so tomorrow morning. Do you know where abs module is located in this model? Is that what I need to change?

No, the cluster is just displaying which module is reporting a fault. It doesn't mean the ABS module is bad, just that there is an active ABS code. I asked about the wheels because it does sound like a wheel bearing has let go from the sound and feeling you are sensing. A wheel falling off because of failed bearing will also cause an ABS fault since the sensor rides against the hub.
