What kind of precautions and care should I take for my 2014 Volvo I-Shift Transmission truck to make sure it's maintained properly and safely? Any advice/suggestions in general would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Not much to do, other than change the oil and filter at the recommended interval! I'll do mine every 2 years (300,000km) but it's cheap to DIY
Also a good idea to check that shifter connecter plug behind the drivers seat every once in a while to make sure theres no corrosion in there. Wet boots, spilled water, whatever rolls back there, that plug is prone to picking up moisture. I had my tranny think it was in gear while unloading one day and wouldn't allow me to start the engine at a busy place because of this haha. Lucked out and found it pretty quickly
Care and feeding of your I shift transmission. For oil and filter changes see above, Sirjeff has it right. Drive slowly when starting off letting it shift up or down. Especially when you have a heavy load. I always try to drift up to a stoplight, heavy traffic, turn etc letting the engine slow the truck down and using the brakes as little as possible. Drive gently, not aggressively and do not floor it like I see so many do now. When driving up hills, mountains etc I always slow down to the lower gears and drive slowly. Sure it annoys the hell out of everyone behind me but they are not paying for my transmission repairs and fuel bills. Basically take it easy. Btw I have 1.2 million miles on mine and only one repair for the flywheel and clutch actuator. And it runs fine, no codes or issues. Hopefully this helps you out. Good Luck
