I've seen several threads from the past about the ISX cost to rebuild and talking to my engine build man the other day he tells me they have come down a lot.
The one in question (mine) is a 2007 model in a Pete (550hp). It's got about 950K on the clock. It has enough blow by to pump up an air tank but it still runs like a raped ape. I just cant keep oil in it. Oil pressure is still good. 30-35 lbs. hot pulling in the summer and idles about 15-20 lbs hot.
I would replace the head along with the inframe . CM870
Turbo is new. Truck runs good and looks good.
    What do you think?

I received a quote for a new ,not rebuilt , motor from a California Cummins shop of $26k. That's including install and all complete with ECM reflash update. 450hp 2011 replacement complete with 300,000 mi factory warranty, Compared to a rebuilt plus fan clutch , egr crap, oil cooler etc it was a saving of 5 to 10 thousand.

26 for a new motor.... wish I would've gone that route. Inframed mine and it's worse than when I took it in.

Seems to be hit and miss with rebuilding and you can bet the new parts won't like working with the old egr system and sensors and programs any better than the old parts they wore out.

I turned my original internals into a pile of slag at 566000 miles. French Ellison KW did the rebuild because of warranty.

Hindsight it should've gone straight to Cummins.

I'm in Canada and our prices are higher, but with both Cummins and Detroit DD15's it is the same cost to buy a crate engine than it is to have one rebuilt at dealer.
And I'd rather have a crate motor with warranty than one rebuilt by joe blow at the dealer.

ISX crate installed was 30 grand here once core was sent back. Dealer wanted almost the same to rebuild.
