I wonder what kind of BS info is floating around on this, I mean I know they tested the trucks for communications equipment as part of their pre-production phase but all I heard was with the connections to the body and how you have to seal them up because of the dissimilar metal issue.

I would just treat it as a normal truck, if you don't want to put a hole in the middle of the roof, then I would consider a bracket from the bed or even the frame to over the cab, make sure it doesn't move and you're good to go.

Does that apply to the use of a magnetic mount Wilson?

Where's a good spot to mount the radio itself? My 17 has the full center console.

to a degree. a buddy of mine uses a Wilson 5000 magnet mount on the roof of his Jeep Grand Cherokee and base stations have a difficult time talking as far as he does

No aluminum isn't something that a magnet can stick to.

The principle Does apply on a steel bodied vehicle, so Yes, a magnet mount in the middle of the steel roof will offer much better performance than one mounted on a metal clip between the hood and fender

Just wanted to point out the obvious -

There are two different issues, one is the question about the conductivity of the body for the purpose of a reflective surface which you sort of answered and the one I am addressing a concern with this comment - "In my 2005 truck I always used the Wilson 1000 magnet mount and got excellent results but Im guessing the mag mount wont work on aluminum."

Definitely won't work on aluminum but a great lightweight antenna for most vehicles
