Looks like it has rg59 on it.... I'll still check it. I need to find a better route to get it into the cab.

Well, I visited Bob's CB Shop, and went with one 7ft Firestik. I went from hearing just about nothing, to hearing everything. My receive is so well, I can turn the gain up high enough to hear the slight engine feedback. That's not an issue because I have noise filters. The stick doesn't move much at 75mph either. I decided against going cophase.
I don't want the oval shaped rx/tx pattern. And you guys here mostly recommend one good antenna.
Finally have great ears. -
Good deal.

Good thing I still had the "cheap" truck stop mounts. Those mounts are grooved. I married the grooved mounts with the grooved bird perch, still using the heavy duty firstik base bolted to the mount, and it's not moving at all.
I called Bob's, some woman answered, probably the one who just started and couldn't speak to a patron when I was there, and she just said there was nothing she could do over the phone. I wasn't expecting her to do any labor over the phone. But an apology or some semblance of customer service would have been nice. She said bring it back through the shop and they'll fix the issue. Just a good thing I had spare parts.
I don't think I'll be going back to Bob's.
The install guy insisted on 18ft of coax over though I asked for 9ft, etc.
Think I'll have to start doing my own setup. But I failed to get mine working properly.
Anyway, that's my story. -
What mount did they sell you? I've had zero issues with the one they sold me. Tram "bigcat" I believe. Does fine even with my heavy extended-shaft oil coil antenna on it.

Mine looks substantially different, and both halves of it are bent to wrap around the perch, resulting in a much better grip. I'll post pics in a bit.
tucker Thanks this. -

Appear to be aluminum with no knurling on the post, automatic points off there.
Plus you have to run a shorter, less efficient antenna up there at the spot mirror location, and it's more likely to get broken off by hitting trees on that side.darthanubis Thanks this. -
Aluminum works great until it corrodes. If you never leave the desert, it's great.
I can show you the scratches down the upper passenger side of my truck from branch impact...it happens sometimes. Far more likely on that side than the driver's side.
Proximity to the engine block hasn't been causing me any problems.
