I'm in the model mentioned above. Does anyone know how to keep the engine idling all night? I've been able to do it like 4 times and I don't know how I did it.
I know when the check engine light starts blinking, you step on the clutch and that'll keep it goin for about 10 more minutes. That doesn't keep me warm all night though.

From what I have done, I turn on the cruise control? Are the new trucks unable to do this nowadays?
Some in the past, have had to release the parking brakes in order to do this, but I wouldn't recommend it frankly,. as one would be very dependent on the trailer brakes. -
Chalk the wheels, release both brakes, set heavy brick on throttle pedal.

Depends on how it's programmed. If the company absolutely doesn't want that truck idling, they can make it so.
High idling, releasing the tractor brakes, and a set of hand warmers on the ambient air temperature sensor gauge are the traditional methods... I remember some time ago, a poster here got a little carried away, rigged up what looked like an apparatus with a hood prop at the end up it, connected it to the air for his seat, and it would bump the accelerator every so often... awesome handiwork, although perhaps a bit eccentric. -
Why are you cold at this time of year? A sleeping bag works great.
Once it gets above -15c +05f I don't worry about heat. -
I was not expecting the variety of answers I received haha. Some crazy ideas I never even thought to think of.

As for leaving the parking brake released to bypass the override, I happened to discover that the Volvo D13 shutdown will be disabled if you unplug the park brake sensor switch under the dash. That feed is what triggers the idle shutdown timer. That way you could safely override the timer without actually leaving the parking brakes released. Might work in other trucks.
