Thought lugs were supposed to be torqued to 450-550 ft lb?

Trying to pull my tire off (just to practice with my tools for when I need to change a tire), and the lugs wont move.

4ft torque wrench hits 600lb without moving the lugs. Digital torque meter on a 4ft breaker bar gets up to 700lb without the lugs moving.

Takes more torque to break a fastener loose.

That said, someone probably got a little overzealous with the impact wrench putting them on last time.

    spsauerland and zaroba Thank this.

Got it. Just had to turn my 4ft breaker bar into an 8ft one with a disassembled load lock.

This a post that we dont see often. But good lesson learned. Put then on with torque wrench and anyone can get them off with a 4ft. Bar or even a 1/2 impact.

    Good for you.

Even with them loosened, my impact had to work to get them off due to the rust build up. But lord knows it wont be at optimal capacity being fed through a 50ft gladhand hose.

Bent the loadlock a bit, but the ones I have are crap anyway. Almost had to put my whole weight on it. Almost bought an 8ft steel pipe when I was at the hardware store last week, should have.

45 mins overall to get the tire off, back on, and retorqued to 475.

Pipe straight into the tank with 1/2 hose and that impact will be a lot stronger.

    AModelCat Thanks this.
