There are many currently on truck paper. If you paid that price and had to rebuild it soon, you could have bought a new one for the same cost. A well maintained series 60 could go a million before a rebuild or one that hasn’t been maintained could need one at half a million. If you have it checked out and dyno’d by an experienced mechanic you should get a better feel for the health of this particular engine. It is still not a guarantee that you won’t need major repairs at any time, but that is true with about any engine. It is a very reliable engine and easy to repair by most shops. I would pick this any day over one with an EGR. Good luck with it.

Really a rebuild at 500k? That seems awful early. Under that scenario not sure what solution would be best. Is a new glider around $120k? I'd just make sure it's not burning any or very little oil. Heard some guys with new gliders complain about that. I have a 2012 Volvo 730 and the engine doesn't use any oil at all. It's one thing I really like about the truck. I usually change earlier than manufacturer interval recommends. Emissions are so, so. I believe it just depends on how you treat the truck. We bought it used in 2015-2016 with 376k and had a big nightmare with emissions with the first year. But now the second and third year have been relatively maintenance free as far as emissions are concerned. Truck now has 525k. Every truck has some sort of problem. But my next truck would either be a Columbia, Coronado, or Cascadia glider. Since the weight of the emission stuff and the restriction of power and maybe a little better fuel economy. We don't travel CA anyways. I test drove a Coronado glider with 500ish miles in Michigan about a year ago and they were asking like 79k. Liked the truck but the interior looked like it was falling a part a bit and I definitely didn't think it was worth 79k. Was a nice truck tho.

I'd agree with this. The price of knowing that you are the first owner and you know the maintenance records from day 1 is a big relief. I had a different shop change my oil and the next week I immediately knew something was different. Checked records and it was a different oil. Shoot!! Recently was my interval time so went back to my usual place and the truck ran like it should before. If I were you, I'd either stick with the truck I got until I could get a new glider or if money allows I would get the new glider. Not saying a used glider is bad, I'd just get all the maintenance records for it or walk. A great mechanic is good but not as good as all the maintenance records. Just my $0.02.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe is Detroit 60's (12.7L) is one of the cheaper rebuilds. That's something to consider as well.
