I just purchased a 2018 Kenworth Glider. It is equipped with a Cat 2WS engine. I want to install a pyrometer and oil temp gauge but am having little luck. It seems that the gauges are digital fed getting information from engine ECM. Looking through the ECM I don’t see any provision for these gauges. The other option is to get mechanical gauges of which Kenworth does not have. Is there anyway to adapt the stock gauge to this truck.

Pittsburgh Power sells pyrometers. Maybe they can help with oil temp gauge

if the 2018 KW are anything like the western stars or freight liners the engine ECM feeds the body ECM via data link and the body ECM feeds the dash gauges.

if you want to run them through the BODY ECM you'll have to find out what input the Body ECM requires from those senders and get the correct senders to signal the body ECM to the correct pins.

pyro never goes through the CAT ECM nor does oil temperature in a pre ACERT on highway flash file. they will go direct to the body ECM.

I too wanted to transplant my 3406 into a newer cab and chasis but was told it is illegal? Does a shop have to do it to be legal?

I ordered the truck through D&B Truck &Equipment in Glasgow,Ky. Spec from ground up. They will put your engine in a new truck. Nothing illegal about it yet.

It’s got nothing to do with who does the work. If the truck is not a glider you can only install an engine that is the same emissions as the build date or newer. You are not allowed to go backwards.

That’s because it’s a glider. You can’t not purchase a non glider and do that.

To the op. I would install mechanical gauges that seems to be the easiest route.

I would just find some good mechanical gauges you like and put them in there, be easier than screwing around trying to get it hooked to the ecm and ####.
