I got a 2019 KW T680 in Aug 2018 . I haven’t had any issues with it since I got it.
But now in 4/19 as we were heading to LA from near San Francisco... I got a check engine warning light on the dash ... and a 3 hour derate message ... so I found a place to pull over and shut it down ... I waited a few minutes and restarted the truck only to see smoke coming out from the passenger side .... I got out to see what it was , and the truck was on fire ....
We’ve been in this situation 2 weeks now , KW , PACCAR & the company I lease the truck from are all “shocked” about this happening. But I think that these DEF systems have created more fires than they are willing to admit to . They are investigating this , calling in the NTSB also .
So, I am wondering how many more drivers have had this happen to them or know of someone that it happened to .
Thanks for reading my post ... all responses are welcome and appreciated .

I heard of seven Kenworths going up in flames in 2015.
One of our guys had it happen going down the highway. Another was following him chatting on the CB, noticed flames coming out the bottom of his truck. They stopped and only had enough time to drop the trailer before the truck was totally engulfed in flames. Burned it down to the ground.MartinFromBC, x1Heavy, Intothesunset and 1 other person Thank this. -

Are they going to total the truck out?

Ever notice those burn spots on the highway?

The FLD isnt a bad truck nor is the Century back then. However I am not as familiar with the newer trucks these days. And the engines are not that special either.
I'll probably continue to drive my older vehicle past a half million miles years from now. Hardly anything in it that can screw up.MartinFromBC and Intothesunset Thank this. -
Who ever decided to run exhaust pointed at the ground was a fool.
And it was more like a cost cutting item for cheaper production.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
They stopped making them decades ago with a very narrow set of exceptions in LOCAL daily trucks. The little ones.
That would be one of the criteria for me to quit on the spot if I saw a company tractors lined up as weed burners in orientation. There isnt nothing as fun as old iron trying to warm up at 50 RPM surrounding you with a cloud of choking blue under the cat walk as you hook trailer gladhands.Intothesunset Thanks this.
