Good Afternoon drivers, 2020 International / cummings engine So I have a sound coming from the transmission - FLYWHEEL - most likely truck has 340.000 miles and runs very good --- this FLYWHEEL SOUND / noise -- just started about a month ago and it seems like it may be getting worse. ** The noise is not all the time just once in a while. What would you recommend -- to get this corrected -- and what would be the best approach for this type of problem. The sound comes on generally when in 10th Gear 50 mph + - going downhill.
In order to determine the cause, one of the most useful tools we have used is the Steelman Smart Ear. This tool uses a series of clamped wireless transmitters that are attached to various vehicle components, and a receiver that the technician can use to listen to the noises generated by those components. Some of these type of tools will also tell the frequency of the noise to narrow down the possibilities. Other than that the transmission would have to be pulled to check the pilot bearing (goes in the center of the flywheel) etc. What is the warranty on the trans? Some Eaton trans used in linehaul the warranty is 5 yrs 750k miles.
are you sure its from the flywheel? could it be from the gearing in the trans? id think a flywheel would make noise all the time if that is where the sound is coming from.
