I am just wondering if anyone has had good news with having this issue covered under warranty? My truck is a 2024 Freightliner with 89,000 miles. When you push up on the yoke at the output shaft at rear of transmission it does move. Not a lot, but it moves. I was told by a Freightliner service member that it shouldn't move at all. But has anyone had this issue and warranty covered it or do they give you some ridiculous quote for you to pay for repairs?

I guess ask them and see what they says. It has 750,000 mile warranty unless the computers has something logged in showing driver abuse. If it even has that ability. You could take it to a Detroit Diesel shop. I had good luck with Detroit Diesel honoring their warranty.

I took it to a dealer where I live now. I hope they do honor their warranty. I am not sure what they do to repair that issue, if they just repair the bearing or what but I hope its relatively quick. I know I didn't do anything to damage it. Not knowingly at least.

The clutch has a warranty for like 300,000 miles but there is a clutch overheat warning. I got that warning before on dash. If someone buns the clutch up they would not warranty that I would guess.

I had DD15 engine with 600,000 miles parts and labor warranty. They found head gasket leaking oil. It was going to be simple warranty repair. When the dealer took head off. They found burnt piston and what looked like rust in coolant ports in block. I was worried because they said, that had to call Detroit Diesel to see what they wanted to do because of the warranty and it was not a simple job at this point.

It took 3 days for Detroit Diesel to decide what to do. They took engine apart down to the block and cleaned the rust and replaced the burnt piston. They also found the piston liners were not set correctly at factory. They paid for everything parts and labor just like the warranty I had. The dealer was like we don’t see warranty that includes labor a lot.

Same engine I took to another Detroit Diesel shop for warranty on air compressor, plus just a checkup because it was 3 day from end of warranty. The shop said it would be 4 days wait just to get truck in shop. I’m wondering about my warranty coverage expiration before they get to my truck. They said as long as truck was at shop and in their system for repairs, even it it goes past the warranty expiration date they will still warranty any claim.

5 days later they call me and said truck was in shop but they had a problem. They finished my truck and started the engine got low oil pressure warning. They looked at engine and oil pump went out. The engine needs new roller bearings now. I was wondering who is responsible for this repair now. They said no problem it was in our shop before warranty expired and Detroit Diesel will cover the repair even though it was past warranty expiration date by 1 or 2 days.

I seen on line they didn’t sell any parts for the DT12 transmission. Not sure if that’s true. The output shaft is not like a deep internal part dealer could not change I would think. They might not be able to change it and be forced to replace the transmission under warranty. Have not heard anyone having transmission issues or repairs yet.

since the transmission is all computer controlled you can’t do much to shock the transmission like a manual if you pop the clutch out shift gears wrong. If someone was spinning tires in parking spot on snow or ice. Then got traction you could shock the the drive line and transmission. Not sure if they could tell that. If just normal driving and bad part from factory seems like warranty would cover whatever the problem is.

Your truck is new, why would you think the drivw train would not be covered? This is a question you should be asking your warranty company.

I know it should be covered. But I also know that sometimes even with warranty they will try to squeeze money out of someone before they do much of anything. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be covered myself. There are no leaks that I have ever seen of any fluid at all. I am just a worry wart I guess. I won't know until tomorrow at the earliest whether or not its warranty repair. The dealer I took it to failed to tell me when I called they only had two transmission certified techs that work Monday to Friday only, until I got there and already checked the truck in. But, they are also the closest dealer to my home.

    "Transmission Certified"

LMFAO. Its all nuts & bolts and being able to follow what's written in the service manual.

I know. You'd think any "mechanic" there could handle it. But I guess not. May be like the TA or Loves. A tech can't do what he doesn't get some little piece of paper from their "academy" that says he can do?

There is no actual way for a driver to grenade a DT-12 in a freightliner.

You won't find any reports online of the DT-12 failing.

90% of the techs that are certified at Freightliner Dealerships are scared to split the case, cause they don't know how transmissions work. Freightliner says just order a new tranny.

    Find a new dealer.

Yeah, don't ride the clutch when your trying to back into a dock. It works the clutch. Usually your low air will come on before your overheating the clutch.

If you guys were driving a manual, you'd have given up before the truck did.

600K miles under warranty and Detroit took it down to the block on THEIR DIME and rebuilt it?

Buddy you need to post more about that story....
