It was a used fleet truck. It had the extra warranty for 600,000 miles part and labor was included. Not sure what happened to the engine before I got it. I guess a bad build from Detroit Diesel. I had the repair record from the fleet they did not show any major engine repairs. Head gasket was leaking oil. When they got the head off. They found all kinds of problems. Freightliner was telling me I might get a new engine. They sent pictures and everything to Detroit Diesel they said to repair the engine. I didn’t like freightliner doing that much engine work but it was all under warranty. I was thinking they will find a way to void the warranty. Detroit said take engines to the block. Who know exactly how much the did. They had to replace a piston and reset the liners. So they probably did it. They did not know what was in the coolant ports in the block but said it looked like rust. The engine had new coolant when I got if from the fleet. Detroit Diesel did all that work under warranty. Freightliner even said I was lucky it had that extra warranty that included parts and labor for 600,000 miles.

I wouldn't give it a second thought and I WOULD RUN THAT MOTOR like a beat up pitbull for the next 100K miles.

You got a free inframe, who cares if it costs a week or so of downtime.

Good on you for gaming that warranty. Don't idle it at all, run it.

That would work for me if they just throw a new transmission in it. The tech got to it Monday, but never did put any notes or anything in when I called at 5:30p.m. Apparently, the tech left at 5pm because he only works 8-5. I am hoping he took forever or is taking forever just to milk the warranty pay on it. It does not take hours upon hours to get under the truck and move the output shaft. That should have only taken two minutes. I do know the service advisor said she doesn't think he dropped the trans out of it yet. So what all he is doing is beyond anyone's guess I think for now.

Believe it or not dealers typically get bent over on warranty work.

I don't doubt that. I am sure the factory tries to screw them on it. I just hope that is why its taking so long for them to "diagnose" the issue.

I called Freightliner just a few minutes ago and was told the tech put in that the transmission needs a new yoke and the rear seal replaced. They are waiting to find out if its under warranty or not. It wasn't leaking any oil at the time the shop that did the inspection and found the slop at the output shaft. And it sounded like the clunk noise was inside the transmission but I suppose we will see what happens.

Clunk noise doesn’t sound good. Might be more to that yoke going bad. Seems like it should all be covered by the warranty.

Yoke will not going to fix the problem only if the yokes center bolt is loose. Most likely the bearing for the output shaft inside the splitter housing. Easy fix need to pull transmission and separate splitter housing from tranny. Bearing is $40-50 last time I checked. Dealer will sell you the hole splitter unit for $3000.

They did say it is covered under warranty. Replaced the yoke and some seal they said was leaking. To be fair, when the inspector showed me the slop in it, it sounded like a bad ujoint, but he insisted it was coming from the output shaft. So, I guess I will crawl under there and check it when I go to pick it up here in a couple of hours. It wont take much to make the shaft move if it is going to move.
