2025 Diesel Diagnostic Toughbook Laptop/Scanner with Genuine Nexiq USB link 3 - HeavyDiagnostic

Replacing a clutch in 2018 peterbilt 579 atm and I've been looking at this laptop/scanner to reset the transmission, wipe fault codes, change some very basic shift points. The description says that it will do all of this and more without any costly subscriptions which is why I was leaning this direction. Does anyone here have any experience with this particular setup? Something similar? w/ link

Only had older model petes up to this point so this is all relatively new for me. Is what I'm trying to accomplish feasible? or am I gonna have to watch tutorial after tutorial and track down a lot of info?

I borrowed my buddies universal diag to check things out and it worked to wipe the inactive fault codes and give me the actives when I was trying to figure it out on side of road. Code 26 clutch disengagement and code 27 clutch slip were present and it was evident when I crawled under. My main concern is being able to wipe the active faults and restore transmission after I install. Didn't want to have to pay someone with road ranger to come out and charge me for a few minutes of button pushes

    Any info is greatly appreciated

Hmm, when I had a clutch installed and the transmission rebuilt, I don’t remember having to reset anything. Mine is a 2014.

It's overpriced IMO and I bet that link is a Chinese knockoff instead of an authentic Nexiq. Would be much cheaper to just pay someone to do it for you after you get the trans in.

Was yours putting out fault codes when it happened?

I had bought a used laptop years ago only to download all the software, programs etc for my CAT, got it all on the internet at no cost. I did have to buy the Cat Comm. I got rid of everything when I sold my 94 Pete. Gave the guy the whole package deal. Anyways, now with my Cummins, I have the OTR tool that has paid off over countless of times, BUT, it’s just clears codes and gets me home or shop without a tow. I’ve thought about buying another set up for my Cummins, but with my tool and the guys at the shop who I haul for have everything and there always hooking me up for anything that’s needed. I only pay the the parts and labor to have any sensor replaced.
