If a terminal isn't hiring in my area how big of a problem is that? CTL says it's hiring in Houston. Would I be able to still train in Dallas and just drive to Houston when I'm ready to start working?

Another question, what do you mean by permit?

Just like you're regular license- you go and take all the written tests to get your permit, then schedule a date to take your driving exam. Chinaman has a great point, if you can on with CTL give it a shot. Amazing money in running Tankers

I guess I'm just confused. I didn't know you would have to take a driving test at the DMV to get a CDL. Especailly with DMVs in Dallas being so backed up.
Or maybe I'm not understanding 100%.

CTL Transportation is an OTR company for the most part, so you don't have to live near a terminal to be hired. Talk to a CTL representitive and ask if Dallas is currently in the hiring area. I'll try to find some info if I can.

I think Truck Driver Institute Inc. in Dallas is a school CTL and MCT hire from. Contact the school and tell them you want to work for CTL Transportation and ask if they work with the company as a sponsor.

You need a "cdl permit" before starting cdl school. This allows the school to take you on the road as a student. Get the "cdl permit" at the local DMV.
Study now for the permit tests. Google : CDL Practice Tests - Texas and there are free study guides and practice tests on there. You will need to study the hazmat/tanker tests if you want tankers now or in the future. There's also CDL Practice Tests on this website.
YouTube may also have videos on cdl tests.
YouTube also has films on Pre-Trip Inspections. Start studying those and memorize as much as you can. When you take the final tests in cdl school to get the license, you must pass a pre-trip inspection given by the DMV.
This seems like a lot, but once you get started, it's really quite simple.

If no luck with CTL Transportation, try Schneider Bulk. Both companies hire 21 yr. old drivers.
Schneider Bulk sometimes sponsors cdl school and the also reimburse cdl school tuition to the driver up to $6000.00
When you complete cdl school, Schneider Bulk will send you to Houston for their tanker training.

    That's good advice right there!
If you do this, let me know because I have a list of companies that hire 21 yr. old drivers.

You have to take a driving test to get your regular license in Texas now, think they started that over 5 years ago. CDL side isn't as backed up as the regular side for appointments, normally only a week or two wait compared to 5-6 weeks for a standard license. And it doesn't have to be your local DMV, you go to one of the less busy ones in the suburbs.
