The downside of 17.5s is that if you need one on the road, you'll have a hell of a time finding them. As for me in regards to the OP, I'd opt for the 22.5s, personally.

I have LP 22.5 on the truck and LP 24.5 on my flat which is such an inconvenience because I have to carry two different types of spares instead of just one, and not to mention that they cost more and when you need new tires they wont give you anything for yours because nobody wants them. My next trailer will definitely have LP 22.5 unless I get a smoking deal on one with 24.5 then I would just switch the wheels.

sorry to baffle you SHC. I should have read further but I knew Bayou pulled a spread axle step so I tossed out the 17.5 I pulled a 53' spreadable step with 17.5s for 1 and1/2 years and I sure liked that wagon.

The company I'm leased to has almost 100 spread axle curtain vans, all have been on SS for years. All Michelin XTE's. Mine were new when I started 6 mos. ago and are holding up very well, especially considering some of the tight docks we have to back in to.
I'm ready for new drive tires & just decided to stay with my duals. Two flats in two weeks- I like being able to limp it home.
